The Early Prints, 1950-53, show Hodaka interested in people, nature, and intrinsic power. Sail is not about a ship or sailing, but about the power captured by the sail’s form. Love and Hate shows the energy in emotion. The style is semiabstract, with simplicity of form and elegance in color. In the images here and on other pages, certain colors, especially red and black, are often lighter than in the original prints. (See pink, think red.)
