The Prints of Hodaka Yoshida
From the Collection of Margaret and Eugene Skibbe
The Wall Prints 1991-95. What Hodaka chose to feature next was simply a wall. He had gone from House and Nude, to House alone, and now to a close-up of the face of one wall. It is virtually one dimension, devoid of space. The viewer now must focus on the tiniest traces of human presence and action. Yet, even a wall can have a story. Evident are its nobility and its deterioration. A zinc plate provides tactile detail, while bold color offers emotional content. Hodaka made a series of six super-size wall prints, 12 small album-size wall prints with poems, and a few others - and that is how he left us.
